i think i missed THE cue by ~sairah:iconsairah:

In the process of trying to make sense out of it all, I stumbled over the fact that not all of us are meant to play every part on-stage. For some scenes, we have to sit it out, watching from the sidelines. Our role is that of a spectator.

But what if we, during this ritual observation, catch someone fumbling his lines, missing his cue, making a mistake. We are not directors, so we can’t yell, “Cut!”

Is our silence justified? Or is it a crime. Will we be thanked for breaking the rhythm of the scene? And besides, what does it matter, that one fumble.

But if we don’t cut in, then just what is the point of our observance? Why don’t we grab a good book in the meantime and ignore what’s happening out there. We’ll get a call when it’s our turn again, and we can worry about that when the time comes.

And if we do cut in, doesn’t that mean that we’re not simply spectators? Then that would imply that the sidelines are a sham, an illusion…a part of the stage.

Just who are we performing for anyways?

A few thoughts..but thought-provoking ones.

Excellent questions, and no set or specific answer.

Thanks for liking it. I guess its not all that well-developed. Reading it again, it is still raw.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm pretty much settled in, but still a lot more "settling" to do. But I guess that never ends.

No one gets around dA much anymore. All the old faces are gone. Maybe we all just grew up.

If you don't read, you are stupid.

Interesting. One thing I was thinking is why restrict yourself to the term and definition of spectator.

In high school I used to play handball......all the time. (Think tennis except with a bouncy blue ball, similar to what they use in squash I guess, and your hand is the racquet.) Eventually I was bored of the 'sport' and found ways to just have fun with it. One joke I came up with was to turn it into a spectator sport. I did this by walking into the middle of the court in the middle of the game and just sitting down as if seated with popcorn in front of a movie. People would get angry until I explained, "It's a spectator support. I'm a spectator." which pretty much had the effect that Mentos does in its commercials.

I think the most important part about [everything, really, but sticking to context...] being a spectator is to be completely honest with yourself. If you're alarmed and earnestly seeking to help and it occurs to you to speak up and correct, then by all means get rid of some ands so this sentence isn't of the run-on sort. If you're alarmed and decide against speaking up because your sincerity is questionable or because it is not something worth correcting let alone patronizing/criticizing someone for then that is fine, too.

Spectator isn't an illusion. It's an occupation created by people within [civil] societies to take hold of your attention and with that a piece of you as well.
The element of illusion lies in that you're supposed to be compelled to feel as if you're actually participating in the activity

Good day Sairah...

I would rather not be associated with the concept of "old faces" then again I also don't want to be associated with "grown up"

Mostly I would say at times I was not feeling as enriched by the associations created in reaching out to others in an online context. However sometimes I do miss certain peoples perspectives and introspection and you are included in that list.

As far as who we are performing for... I perform for myself, there truly is no other justification for said performance. To perform for others is a sad sad life... do you wish to simply be a clown in a circus?

I certainly do not, I wish to be more and so I am the author of my own book, the writer of my own play. I choose the dialog, the set, the thematic elements and the other actors whom I will associate with.

However I am not in complete control of all things, but this is good. For if I controlled everything this play would be very static and the general dynamic nature of it's ever changing faces, places, and empty spaces is what makes it such an interesting play, a play that is truly worthy of the participation of the actors.

Fumbling lines? Missing cues? Making mistakes... I am not sure those things even exist, at least not in my perception.

However your perception may differ respectivley.

As you mention you are not the director. Ah but you are... in fact all of us are both actor and director at the same time. Which often creates the "too many chiefs not enough indians predicament."

Which in turn probably leads to this "spectator" idea as eventually the true chiefs will arise and the "indians" will take a back seat to them. Perhaps somepeople like being directed? I don't know... I prefer a general lack of direction...

Life seems more interesting when you aimlessly wander. You never know what you might find when you stop looking for things.
